$1.25 TACOS THAT WILL K-O YOUR TASTE BUDS WITH SPICE @ THE CALIENTE TRUCK - GARDEN GROVE

ADDRESS:
12952 LAMPSON AVE GARDEN GROVE, CA 92840
___CORNER OF LAMPSON / HASTER WHERE HASTER BASIN RECREATIONAL PARK'S PARKING LOT IS (FORMERLY KNOWN AS TWIN LAKES PARK)

I've been living in Garden Grove for over a decade now and always pass this truck on my way home at night. ALWAYS. The funny thing is, I somehow thought it was a bit dangerous and "ghetto" but oh man I was totally wrong. I just recently got used to the idea of food trucks aside from the Ice Cream Man so back then when I always saw this truck I found it strange that so many people would be surrounding it late late at night in the darkness. There's also not many street lamps in that area.... so it can look pretty shaaaaaady. BUT! As cliche as it may sound, don't judge a book by it's cover!

My friend Christina and I have recently been biking at Twin Lakes park (no one calls it the haster basin recrea...blahblahblah right?!) because it's definitely been revamped with exercising equipment and a track! WHOO! Yay for city parks! Anywho, when it gets around 7pm we notice the Caliente Taco Truck park on the street by the parking lot of the park. Curious, we finally tried it. FINALLY! AFTER ALL THESE YEARS OF PASSING BY.

There is no sign on that truck that tells you the price of the menu items so you'd have to actually ask them about pricing. For the tacos, they're $1.25 each! What a freaaaaaking deal! Especially since it is basically made fresh for you before your eyes in that truck yannoe? I got the lengua and spicy pork and topped it all off with the red sauce.

The red sauce is so spicy it deserves a whole 'notha paragraph. Usually I'm pretty good with spicy food. And usually, most taquerias don't have a sauce that is spicy enough to provoke any praise from me. But, the red sauce here should have a warning sign. It is seriousssssssssslly REALLY spicy! But in a good way. It was so spicy that it was goooooooooood. It actually had flavor! I loved it even though I had to wait for my tongue to calm down after every bite. THAT RED SAUCE IS THE ISH and y'all need to get down to that truck and go get some!

As for the taco itself and the meat, I would give it a B. Why? Well, that Tapatia Taqueria restaurant in Santa Ana sells tacos for only $1.19 each and although their red sauce/green sauce is nothing and almost bland compared to the red sauce at Caliente Taco Truck, the meat is juicier and given in bigger portions.

BUT HANDS DOWN I WOULD GO TO THIS TACO TRUCK FOR THAT RED SAUCE!

THE CALIENTE TACO TRUCK APPEARS EVERY NIGHT AROUND 7/8PM ISH. BEWARE THOUGH BECAUSE IT'S NOT ALWAYS THERE! There was this one evening that I brought some dollaaaaaa bills with me to bike to the park and was extremely disappointed that the truck didn't show up at all...
